How We Are Handling COVID-19
At Gilbert Eyecare, the health of our patients, our staff, and our community always comes first. This was what motivated the difficult choice we made to close our Norfolk office and restrict hours and services in Virginia Beach. Currently, we’re planning to reopen in both locations on Monday, May 18th, but for the foreseeable future, we’ll be changing the way we operate in order to provide a safe environment for patients and staff.
Personal Protection
All doctors and staff at Gilbert Eyecare will be equipped with appropriate PPE (masks, gloves, and face shields when necessary) during our hours of operation. Any patients and guests who enter the building will be required to wear face covering or a mask – optional for patients under the age of 10.
Sanitization
You’ll find hand sanitizer placed strategically around our office. We encourage you to use as much of it as you need when you’re in for your appointment.
Rest assured, all equipment and exam areas will be thoroughly sterilized between each appointment with no exception. This includes equipment in exam lanes, any frames that a guest tries on or handles in any way, every doorknob and high-traffic area, and all surfaces in our optician’s spaces and optical lab.
Process for Seeing Patients
Immediately after reopening, we’ll be operating on a limited schedule. In order to control patient flow and minimize unnecessary exposure, we’re limiting exams to two per hour. That means, at least for the time being, appointments will be scarcer than they have been in the past. If you’re due for an exam, we encourage you to reach out as soon as possible and we’ll fit you in as early as we can.
We ask that you do not bring additional guests to your appointment – exceptions include caregivers and parents of patients under 18. To shorten the amount of time you spend in our office, you’ll have your pre-visit paperwork texted or emailed to you prior to your appointment.
